Crux - Survival Guide App
About
The Crux Survival Guide Mobile App was created to solve a hypothetical challenge posed during the OmahTI Inbound Project at Universitas Gadjah Mada. This Android application is designed to equip users with crucial survival strategies for navigating the fictional, uncharted planet of Crux.
In a world filled with unknown dangers and limited resources, the app provides essential guidance on discovering sustenance, managing resources, and overcoming environmental obstacles. The project aimed to explore creative solutions and foster innovation in tackling survival scenarios on an alien terrain.

Challenge
The primary challenge of the project was to design a comprehensive survival guide for a completely unknown environment—planet Crux. With no precedent or real-world examples to draw from, the task required imagining potential threats and needs for users on an alien planet.
The app needed to present users with practical survival strategies while being engaging and visually appealing, ensuring it could guide users through a harsh and unpredictable environment, even without real user feedback.
Responsibility
As the designer and part of a two-member team, I was responsible for crafting the UI/UX design and ensuring the app provided a user-friendly yet immersive experience. I worked entirely on developing interactive elements that would make the guide intuitive, while also overseeing the creation of unique visual assets using OpenAI DALL-E for image generation.
I collaborated with Abdan (developer) to ensure smooth integration of features such as resource management, exploration tips, and emergency survival strategies.

Process
Conceptualization: The first step involved brainstorming potential survival challenges one might face on planet Crux. This required a creative approach to imagining unknown threats, such as environmental hazards, lack of resources, and alien wildlife.
Design & Visual Creation: Using Figma, I designed an interactive and visually engaging interface, focusing on making the information easily accessible. OpenAI DALL-E was employed to generate futuristic, alien-inspired images that brought the app's environment to life.
Development: The app was built using Flutter, allowing for smooth performance on Android devices. Firebase was used for backend functionalities, managing hypothetical data on survival tips, resource allocation, and exploration logs.
Key Takeaways
The Crux Survival Guide Mobile App showcased the power of creativity in problem-solving. Designing for a hypothetical world allowed for out-of-the-box thinking, where innovation in UI/UX and mobile development could shine. The project demonstrated how design and technology can come together to create immersive experiences, even without real-world constraints. Working with futuristic concepts and technologies like OpenAI DALL-E taught me the importance of storytelling in design, ensuring that users could be both engaged and guided through an entirely fictional scenario.
