The HIMAKOM UGM website is the official platform of Himpunan Mahasiswa Ilmu Komputer at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), serving as a vital resource for Computer Science students and faculty. It provides access to important academic resources, such as the exam archive section, and supports various student activities, including social events, industrial visits, seminars, and national-level competitions. As one of the most visited websites by UGM students, the platform plays a crucial role in bridging students and HIMAKOM, offering a primary service hub accessible to all UGM students and lecturers.
Challenge
The project’s main challenge was creating a comprehensive, user-friendly, and responsive platform that could house various types of content such as information about the organization, cabinet, divisions, event blog, exam archives, and aspiration forms.
Ensuring consistency across both mobile and desktop while covering such diverse content was critical. Additionally, the project involved addressing design standardization issues due to the large number of people working on the project, which required developing a unified set of design guidelines and components.
Responsibility
As a UI/UX designer, I was entrusted with designing four of the 9 responsive web pages. My tasks included developing user-friendly interfaces for both desktop and mobile, ensuring consistency and accessibility throughout the platform. I worked closely with the team to establish design guidelines, which helped standardize practices across the project and speed up the development process.
Process
User Research & Testing: I conducted usability testing to ensure the platform was aligned with the needs of UGM students, focusing on optimizing the experience across both desktop and mobile devices.
Wireframing & Prototyping: Using Figma, I designed responsive wireframes and prototypes for the four main web pages, prioritizing user accessibility and functionality.
Content Organization: I collaborated with the team to organize content covering multiple areas, such as the cabinet, divisions, event blog, exam archives, and aspiration forms, ensuring each section was easy to navigate and visually engaging.
Design Standardization: Due to multiple contributors on the project, we conducted thorough discussions to establish design guidelines and component libraries, which streamlined the workflow and ensured uniformity across the platform.
